200 BOKO-HARAM MEMBERS KILLED IN KALA BALGE BY COMMON VILLAGERS

According to dailytrust news Rann villagers uses traditional fighting equipment and charms to repel the attacks.Almost 200 suspected members of the Boko Haram were killed today by residents of  Rann, the headquarters of Kala-Balge local government area in north eastern part of  Borno State, officials and locals from the area said.Sources said the insurgents, numbering over 300 stormed Rann and adjoining villages around 4am today but met resistance from the people who had knowledge of the impending attack. This is the second attempt by Boko Haram insurgents on Rann. A similar one was waged by the attackers some month ago but retreated when they reportedly found it difficult to penetrate the town.It was however gathered that this time around, the insurgents had succeeded in entering Rann where they killed some people and burnt some houses but reportedly recorded the worst casualty."The people in Rann and environs used traditional fighting equipment and charms to repel the attacks...they really confronted the attackers who were equally ready for fight," a source said.

A state legislator from Central Borno, who does not want his name mentioned, confirmed the attack, pointing out that the locals had successfully repelled.“The villagers succeeded in protecting their dwellings from the attackers. They killed about 200 members of the sect and many others escaped with serious wounds.“Our people also recovered over 70 motorcycles that the attackers came with. They also collected 2 Hilux vehicles and an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) while some of the attackers were captured alive,” he said.At the Gamboru Motor Park along the Customs area in Maiduguri, some people that came from the area said the insurgents were defeated in Rann during confrontations that lasted many hours.Borno State police commissioner, Lawan Tanko said he was not aware of the attack.“The only information I heard today is that the insurgents have been sighted around Hamchika-Kala Balge road. We have informed sister agencies of the development,” he said.It is not yet clear whether the insurgents are heading towards Kala-Balge for a renewed attack. GSM services in the area have been vandalized by insurgents over two years ago and locals in the area rely on Cameroonian telephone facilities to reach out. Kala-Balge lies along the Shores of the Lake Chad and is few kilometers away from Gamboru town where suspected insurgents killed nearly 400 people last week and destroyed over 300 vehicles, 650 motorcycles, dozens of residential houses, public buildings and the biggest market in the town that shares border with Cameroon. It was learnt that people of Kala-Balge have used various methods, including prayers in protecting their town.

National Conference – The Ogonis are a part of Nigeria too

The fact that the Ogoni’s have always addressed the issues of injustice meted out to them peacefully, without carrying arms or detonating bombs, right from the days of the late Human rights and environmental activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa to the present set of leaders, should have made the organizers of this event make sure that the Ogoni’s are ably represented.

When the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, announced in a live broadcast to Nigerians, that he was going to convene a Sovereign National Conference, I was among the vast majority of Nigerians who greeted it with enthusiasm. My reasons for supporting this planned national discuss weren’t farfetched, issues needed to be sorted out, we needed to get angry, talk about our grievances and most especially, reconcile our differences. The list of delegates earmarked for the National Conference has been released to the public, and after going through that list, saying I was disappointed would be an understatement—but I would rather understate than overstate, and in this case, overstating the facts which is tantamount to exaggeration, is quite unnecessary.

Missing Malaysia plane 'may have turned back' radar displays indicate the aircraft could have turned around before disappearing.

The Authorities in Malaysia has announced that they are now investigating the possibility the missing Malaysian Airlines plane had turned back before disappearing, and were widening the search area accordingly.
According to "Aljazeera report", the Malaysian aviation authorities said it was "fearing the worst" and that radar displays indicated the plane could have turned around.
This raises a lot of unanswered questions," he said. "If the pilots had the wherewithal to turn around why did they not communicate with any of the towers. Still the officials saying there wasn't a distress call."
No weather problems had been reported in the area before the plane dropped out of contact, and the pilots did not send a distress signal - something that has been highlighted by experts as unusual for a modern jetliner.
There was still no confirmed sighting of wreckage from the Boeing 777 in the seas between Malaysia and Vietnam where it vanished from screens early Saturday morning en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.
The identities of four passengers on board the missing jetliner are being investigated over 'airline security fears' as planes and ships from across Asia resumed the hunt for the plane that disappeared with 239 people on board.
Investigators are also checking CCTV footage of two passengers who are believed to have boarded the plane using stolen passports.

I AM NOT AFRICAN!! BY DANIELLE OKPALA

My name is Ogochukwu Chinelo Daniella Okpala, I am a young lady from Anambra state in Nigeria… I’m Igbo. I’m Nigerian!!!

It has come to my notice that people (white, black, Hispanic… etc) use the term Africa/African a lot. I also noticed that people don’t use Europe/European, North America/North Americans… etc a lot. It has also come to my notice that people make sentences like this: ” … I wanna thank all my American, Jamaican, Japanese, German, and African…” can you pick the odd one out in that statement???

I can not stress this enough AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY!

Africa is a land mass, you can’t define someone based on land mass alone. We need to stop categorizing people as Africa or using the term Africa in context of a country/nation.

Africa is made up of beautiful, diverse people with different cultures and traditions. The only thing most people that happen to be located in that beautiful land mass have in common is race.

Nigeria alone has over 200 languages, one state can have like ten different tribes. And this is just one country.

It is just 14 years in prison. You can do it. By Saatah Nubari

This is probably the third time I’ve opened my PC to share my opinion on the anti-gay bill; and two times I’ve had put it back after staring at the blank Word screen for minutes. But today is different; I’ve done the more difficult task of reading the opinion of the gay proponents without harbouring any hate, resentment or grudge towards them. I’ve seen from their point of view, and it is only natural that I try to lend my voice to that of the vast majority of Nigerians who support this law, and, let them also, see from our own point of view without resenting us.
